Chastain Park Conservancy’s fall fundraiser offers a night on stage at the Amphitheater and much more

type='html'>One night a year, the stage of the Chastain Park Amphitheater is a place where Buckhead residents and supporters of Chastain Park from near and far can mix, mingle and dance and maybe pretend it’s their space to entertain and be seen.

Actually, that night is just a week away and it is the Chastain Park Conservancy’s 8th Annual On A Green Night fundraiser, where the stage will be open to those who pay $100 per person to dine on food from some of the area’s fine restaurants, sip some wine, beer or spirits and, yes, dance on the stage to live music.

This year’s fundraiser on Oct. 4 is themed “Heart and Soul,” will have live music from the jazz band Mojo dojo and Scott Glazer, a lifetime Buckhead resident, both a live and silent auction of a wide array of tempting items and even the opportunity for those attending to bid on a Mercedes Benz and vacations.

Doors open at the Chastain Amphitheater at 7 p.m. and the event lasts until 11 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.chastainparkconservancy.org  or at the door for $100 per person.

“The event offers an opportunity to experience a ‘Taste of Chastain’ with 10 local restaurants participating in our al fresco dining experience.” said Rosa McHugh, the Conservancy’s director of development.  “This year we also will be featuring our park partner the Chastain Arts Center with two artistic demonstrations” of people making pottery and paintings she added.

“All proceeds go to support the mission of the Conservancy to restore, enhance, maintain and preserve Chastain Park,” McHugh explained. So, for $100 per person, you get tastings from 10 local restaurants, beer tastings, an open bar, a silent and live auction and much more. And it’s a charitable donation to the Buckhead community.

What’s more, “People can feel like a rock star dancing on the stage,” McHugh said.

Jason Flake of Flake Productions will be the emcee of this year’s event, she said, and Helaine Sugarman, of Buckhead, is the event chair.

The Taste of Chastain, will offer food from restaurants like Atlanta Fish Market, The Big Ketch, Horseradish Grill, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Twisted Taco and Kaleidoscope. The beer tastings will be provided by 5 Seasons Brewing Co.

The fall fundraiser is the conservancy’s largest one of the year, and McHugh said she expects about 400 guests to attend. The board is hoping to raise more than $70,000 through the ticket sales and proceeds from the auctions.

The funds will support three specific initiatives of the Conservancy: Walk Chastain, which is a safety initiative to widen sidewalks along Powers Ferry Road to protect pedestrians from car traffic; Play Chastain, an initiative to build a new regional playground, and the third is to fund the staff that organizes just over 12,000 volunteer hours per year.
